POWERFUL PUBLIC SPEAKING

Rationale: 
Highly experienced and competent people often experience a high level of apprehension when they must make a presentation to a group. They may know what they want to say, but experience a variety of problems due to a lack of experience and knowledge of skills. Many otherwise effective people have difficulty:
  • Identifying appropriate content;
  • Understanding how to structure content for the target audience;
  • Organizing the presentation in a logical fashion that reflects clarity and conciseness;
  • Preparing an attention-grabbing introduction, interesting and effective body, and memorable conclusion; and
  • Delivering the material in a powerful and dynamic manner than builds and maintains interest.

Course Description:This course provides training designed especially for professionals at all levels who give job-related presentations. Briefings, training sessions, technical presentations, demonstrations, group leadership, and other public speaking opportunities require self-confidence, organization, and effective delivery. This course will provide the tools that enable a speaker to overcome apprehension and establish a positive relationship with the audience.

Competencies and Objectives:
  • To be able to assess presentation strengths and weaknesses by analyzing videotaped presentations and identifying personal weaknesses calling for improvement.
  • To gain the skills of making powerful presentations with attention-grabbing introductions, well organized bodies, and memorable conclusions.
  • To be able to analyze a variety of speaking situations in order to select and present the most effective and appropriate presentation style, including manuscript, memorized, impromptu, and extemporaneous.
  • To develop the ability to recognize and implement effective visual and audio aids, such as flip charts, transparencies, chalkboards, computer aided technologies, microphones, and audio/video equipment.
  • To acquire the skill of fielding audience questions effectively and confidently through use of the Five Step Sequence, how to handle objections, and maintaining control over the situation.
  • To improve the use of language in conveying messages, and to develop skill at informing, persuading, or entertaining an audience through appropriate use of analogies, humor, anecdotes, use of note cards and outlines, controlling nervousness, and maintaining continuity throughout the speech.

By the end of this course, clients will understand how to deliver appropriate speeches with increased confidence and skill.

PROJECTING A PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

Rationale:
In today’s competitive professional world, many highly experienced and competent people are confused about how to convey that professionalism to the world. It might be lovely if no one were judged by his or her appearance, but we all know this simply isn’t the case. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of just how the various elements of their appearance and/or behavior are contributing to their overall image—the impression others have of them. 

Course Description: This course provides training designed especially for executives and other professionals who are interested in making an immediate positive impression and creating a lasting positive image with those they meet. By providing basic principles of non-verbal communication, including such traits as eye contact, body language, dress, grooming, etiquette, voice, and speech habits, participants gain insight that enables them to project a positive image and maximize their professional—and personal—effectiveness.
